Personal Lines Broker-Agent

License Information

A personal lines (PL) licensee is a person authorized to transact automobile insurance, residential property insurance, including earthquake and flood insurance, personal watercraft insurance and umbrella or excess liability insurance providing coverage when written over one or more underlying automobile or residential property insurance policies, and a personal lines broker-agent license is a license so to act. Personal Lines Broker-Agent license authority is determined by what documents are submitted.

Prelicensing Requirements

20 hours of pre-licensing instruction covering information about automobile insurance, residential property insurance, including earthquake, flood insurance, personal watercraft insurance and umbrella or excess liability insurance; Plus 12 Hours of Code & Ethics, these hours may be satisfied by completing an on-line or classroom California Department of Insurance approved pre-licensing course

Number of Questions: 160
Time: 3 hours 15 minutes (195 minutes)
Passing Score: 60% or better

*10 additional questions are included in the exam and do not count towards your score. Passing score is based 60% or better on 150 questions. The 10 questions that do not count against your score are not revealed.
